GoPro Camera vs GoPro Camera in Sparring

GoPro cameras have revolutionized the ability for just about anyone to capture awesome action videos. They’re small, relatively inexpensive, and deliver high quality results. When you place the camera on someone’s head, you get a first person persoeyon the action.

A few years ago, we mounted the original GoPro Hero on a head gear for sparring. Recently though, we picked up an additional GoPro Hero4. Now we’ve set up 2 head gear with cameras so we can see not only one fighter’s perspective, but both views side-by-side.

Sharing the videos with the students, they were able to see 2 sides to their fights and other’s. As a group, they were able to identify who is going well keeping their hands up and who was able to move in and out effectively. We also worked on identifying who used their right and left sides, who did and didn’t use their rear weapons, and who moved well without exposing their center line.

It was a break from how we normally run class, as we’ve never brought a computer out before. But everyone seemed to participate, see the fights from new eyes, and will hopefully begin to incorporate their learnings into future sparring.
